300+ Year Old Antique Kani Pashmina Shawl
Three centuries of artistry. An heirloom beyond time.
Some textiles are created to be worn; a rare few are destined to become part of history. Surkhi Kani is one such exceptional heirloom, dating back over 300 years and carrying within its threads the legacy of Kashmir’s extraordinary Kani weaving tradition.
Its surface is adorned with an intricate succession of small paisley butas, arranged in an elaborate, continuous composition. Countless motifs come together to create a richly detailed tapestry, revealing the remarkable precision and patience that define traditional Kani craftsmanship. The deep rose-red palette, softened by delicate pink undertones, lends the shawl an unmistakable warmth and an aged elegance that only time can bestow.
Traditional Kani weaving is an art of extraordinary dedication. Using small wooden kani bobbins, the artisan introduces colours individually to build each motif into the larger design.
